I am a student from the University of Portsmouth studying for a BEng Engineering Geology and Geotechnics…
As part of my course, I taking a year long industrial placement as a trainee geo-environmental engineer for Soils Limited, based out of the Winchester office.
I have just completed my first week where I have undergone in-house inductions. This included a rundown of Health & Safety, been supplied with my essential PPE and completed several certified training courses. This included asbestos awareness, fire safety and manual handling.
I have also been spending time in the logging room where I have worked alongside Dee, an experienced logging engineer. Here I learned the correct and scientific methodology for logging in line with BS 5930 for soil descriptions.
My responsibilities will grow within the logging room meaning that I will be able to act independently of Dee. I am also looking forward to taking the soil descriptions to the next stage by using HoleBASE SI to create client-ready logs.
This blog will look to chronicle my time at Soils, so be sure to check in!
